2000 gmc seirra stuck in 4 hi.

i started my truck it was in 2 hi then i shifted to 4 hi to get out of a snow bank that i had
pushed behind my truck, well it shifted to 4 hi fine and then tried to shift back to 2 hi and
click click no go. i checked the push buttons with volt metre and the numbers read fine.
other then that i dont know what to do or how to get it out of 4wd back to 2wd. I can hear
the truck trying to shift but it trys twice and then back to 4wd.

also id like to know how to fix this issue and be able to shift between. even what it is that causes this to happen
