2000 GMC Sierra won't go past 20 mph

My boyfriend had gotten my 2000 GMC SIERRA
stuck in snow and after we had gotten it out I
noticed it wasn't shifting right, wouldn't go past 20-
25 MPH but my RPMs would go high.. What can
cause this? Do I need a new transmission? Help
please!

Doesn't have exhaust on it at the moment, was falling off so was taken off to be replaced then this happened.

If he wasn't easy with the gas pedal when it was stuck, trany probably needs to be rebuilt.
