New Stereo Install - Will not work in Drive mode what do I do to fix it?

Asked by GuruTDGLK Jun 11, 2018 at 07:55 PM about the 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have installed an aftermarket Dual Stereo (1'st mistake).  I looked up the wiring diagram (2002 GMC Sierra SLT AC Delco radio) And began the installation, speakers, power (no power antenna) Connection to AC switch cable, ground.  Everything should be good, Right?  Wrong.  The unit will come on and play DVD/CD with out issue, radio will come on (no signal but that's another story),  I back out of my driveway and put It in gear, ok so far, start driving...everything shuts off!  I pull up to a stop sign and it starts back up!  Great, start off again it shuts off. I'm at my wits end!  How the F... do I get this thing to work?

Maybe your stereo has the wire from the head unit to the parking brake switch like mine. I grounded the wire permanently and the problem that I had (same as yours) was fixed. Your stereo might have a wire that connects to a positive source instead, so check your manual and see.
