MY 1990 FORD THUNDERBIRD 6 cylinder , shuts off ( only) when i put it in reverse! can you help?thank you

I thought the problem was the fuel filter, not the problem.

It is possible that when you move the selector to R that it is causing some kind of a short with the ignition switch. Open steering column and see if you have a wire worn through and shorting out.
