Transmission problems

Asked by Brenda Apr 13, 2021 at 11:21 AM about the 2005 Audi A6 3.2 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 a6 Audi with a
3.2 engine. My son-in-law is a
mechanic and has changed
the transmission oil twice.
The first time it was with a
generic kit and the second
time was with an Audi kit.
The transmission runs very
rough and sometimes gets
stuck in first gear. Both times
the transmission fluid was
replaced it will only take three
quarts and I know the kit
supplies five and a half to six
quarts. Any ideas about why
this would be and would it be
the cause of the rough
running transmission.

You son in law is probably performing a dump and fill, so that would use less? Have a transmission shop or the audi dealer check the vehicle out for you. It might be more than just old fluid. Was the trans running rough before the change?

Your transmission is worn out internally, drain a couple quarts of fluid and refill with Lucas transmission stop slip then drive for about 100 miles.
