when replacing tires is there such a thing as 4 wheel alignment or is this just a
scam by tire dealers. The rear is a solid fit unless you hit something hard
causing the banjo to move??

Yes, there is a 4-wheel alignment. Not all vehicles need it, usually the front wheels are adjusted to the rear (2-wheel alignments are 'thrust' alignments), but on vehicles that allow adjustment to the rear a 4-wheel alignment gives you more options for adjustments.
should have stated on my question that it was a 05 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 where I dont believe there is any adjustment on the rear tires making it a scam by tire dealers saying the rear can be adjusted. If it were independent suspension that would make a difference. Thanks Ken
Upon further research I found that there were trucks made from 02 to 05 under the Denali pkg that had what was referred to as quadrasteer where the rear wheels turned along with the front wheels where as I could see a 4 wheel aligment being needed as they would have independent suspension so unless you have that the dealers are digging into your pockets if theyhit you with a 4 wheel alignment charge
yes but the rear end is not independent suspension... only front is. I just performed a 4 wheel alignment on 2002 gmc sierra 4x4 with 4 wheel steer, you can adjust toe in the rear. .
I have a 2017 GMC Canyon SLE 4x4 All Terrain - would this require a 4 wheel alignment or only a 2 wheel due to it having a solid back axle?
