2004 Audi S4

Asked by Gunnar May 22, 2019 at 09:27 AM about the 2004 Audi S4 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: General

I found a 2004 Audi S4, with the 4.2L V8 with
a 6 speed manual. The car has 127k miles
and looks like it’s in great condition. This
would be a huge step up from the 2003
Subaru Forester with the flat four, 5 speed
manual I drive now. Is the car worth buying?

If you plan on getting an Audi S4 2004-2008 with a 100,000 plus miles you need to make sure that the timing chain guides were replaced. They are known to go bad and crack and it will mess up your timing chain. The service alone for that is between 4 and $5,000. That is one of the reasons why you see a lot of people selling their cars at around a hundred thousand miles or so.
