1997 GMC C3500 with a 7.4 Hard start when warmed up.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

truck will start fine when cold but when allowed to warm up and shut off....
the only way to restart it is to hold the petal to the floor and usually it will fire
up.   when warm it will hesitate and sometimes die.   the fuel filter was just
replaced thinking that might be it but doesnt help much.  the fuel pump was
replaced at the dealership a couple years ago.  any ideas as to what to
check next.....  Thanks in advance

I think when you hold the peddle to the floor it cancels any fuel/injector pulse , which kind of points to a flooding situation , change the coolant temp. sensor maybe it thinks it's still cold and delivers extra fuel flooding it out . Maybe clean the IAC valve port or shoot some carb cleaner down the throttle . Of course things should be tested/diagnosed but in a pinch you can try those things. the worst approach is the parts cannon , replacing parts on a whim hoping to find a solution .
