Do you want to go cheap or pricey... looks or performance... DIY? One of the simplest mods you can do is to put a short shift stick in. It's relatively inexpensive but it does shorten the throw from gear to gear.

CAI. (do research by checking independent studies for best gains. dont believe the companies word) full exhaust. chip. simple mods and not too expensive. shocks and struts would make a huge difference also.

get a chip, cold air intake, and an exhaust. People say that gets you to 300hp... i have the 180hp one got the chip for 500, cold air intake(which sounds awsome) and now im saving up for a full 3inch exhaust. After that you can get a turbo kit for 2k, slap a front inter cooler on. you'll have a at least a 400hp TT for 4k

You make my day stan. I own a bicycle. and if this an audi club , wat is to you, I join in or not.

No problem with you. I just didn't like you telling the Dr.D to sell his tt. This is a free place. I certainly don't have anything against you being on a audi tt club. It's all about shooting the "breeze". By the way, is your bike a ten speed?

Adrian did you get a good diverter valve for your car? I highly recommend it! I have the forge div. and I notice a very big difference in how the turbo responds.

125

you will NOT have a 120hp gain from Chip, CAI, and exhaust.

I said that because the guy up there said it will get him to 300hp

I wish it was that easy to do! You need to do alot more than that. An intake and big turbo plus your exhaust and of course reprogramming the chip will not be a complete job. On my APR kit they replace injectors, fuel pump, exhaust manifold, engine mounts,a hell of alot of piping replaced also. It was a VERY complete kit. Makes everything work good together.

was up stan, yah 300hp was big talk but i think the 225 can easily push 250 with that chip since a 180hp get a gain to 205 ya know. Plus a 3inch down pipe gives you(supposably) 8-12%gain that...10% of 250 makes it 275...but who knows. i love my audi.it has 175000 miles on it. got it chipped cold air intake now i've finally gotten my 42ddf 3inch exhaust(ill put up some videos drifting this winter) gotta race some stock cars so i can find out how fast it is muahaha

As soon as someone does any correct mods you will notice a real difference in the car. The fun in driving the car is so satisfying! Adrian, you also wrote on what are diverter valves. Basically they are a big part in the way your turbo responds. There are two types to chose from. A mechanical one with a piston style function. These are strong and last IF I repeat IF you lube them sometimes. The other type uses a diapragm. Our stock oem diverter is this type. Very good fast action on these but being a diapragm they do break! I have the forge diverter that is a piston style setup. I do love the little chrome thing! It's all up to you in your choice. See you around Adrian!

I prefer BOV, even tho the DV is better for TTs.

look into intake (cold air intake and intake manifold) and exhaust, Then look into chip tuning, these engines have great potential. Yes a DV or BOV is cool, but dosent do much for performance unless you crank em up, and thats not good unless you have the right air/fuel and timing to go with it. So get an intake, intake manifold, exhaust, chip tuning and then work on the handling. These cars are notoriously heavy, i would spring for some light wheel/tire combo, a cup kit style suspension (springs and shocks matched to your car), and some anti roll bars, at least the rear anti roll bar. If you aren't blessed with a load of cash to do the above, I'd ust do the rear sway bar, an intake and the exhaust. That will make the car loads more fun to drive, and go a little faster

| apologise stan..... I was taken in the moment. I love Audi's but I hate their dealers. I still think it would be cheaper to buy a new base model TT.

I have a 2000 and have a chip and a larger intake for the booster which makes it really kickass.

I have a stock TT Roadster, 180 hp, 5 speed. If I wanted an upgrade I would trade my car for a Porsche or Corvette. The "upgrades" you are asking about required changes, upgrades or mods to the engine chip, the suspension, exhaust system, tires, etc. This is all way too expensive and by the time you are finished you still have a TT. If you like the shape/style of the car, like I do (mine is 10 years old and I still love the car) then just love the car. If I were to choose one mod/upgrade I would get a chip mod to add HP/torque or high performance tires and live with that. I should be enough.Oh, I would spring for advanced driving training at a race track somewhere. I have done that and the training is invaluable. This ca handles well but it could stand improvement and has cornering limitations. Practice braking is essential for safe driving but most of all obey the laws. They are there to protect you and your car. Most TT damaged are front end caused by excessive speed. Others have been t-boned or rear ended. Be careful out there!

first quick updates you can do.. 1. get your self a good bov(turbo blow off valve) and replace that stock driverter valve if you replace turbo induction hose with silicone and replace direct fit bov you feel the difference quicker responde better turbo sound. 2.short shifter is really good update does not give you horse power but absolutly better driven test. these are the quickest and chippest ways to improve performances but there is no limit to modification but its up to how much money and time you will like to spend. enjoy your tt.

Invest in an overbooster. They usually got for a couple hundred but trick the computer into thinking its making a few less lbs of boost than it actually is. (therefore overriding the stock tune)

this topic is super old but just want to clear this up for anyone still reading. Do not buy an "overbooster"... what ever the hell that is. If you want to "trick" your 1.8T into "thinking" it is producing less boost... again, whatever the hell that means. Buy a chip. You can get one from GIAC, APR, Neuspeed makes one.. look around, they're everywhere. The ACTUALLY up your boost to 1-1.5bar depending on the chip and also remap your fueling and everything. They are around $500 but generally give you around 45-60 extra hp. It will feel like a kick in the ass. Or you could go with an "overbooster" and blow up your very well engineered motor.

Refrain from posting about topics where you lack knowledge. 3 psi is a safe increase and under $200.

2,125

And don't get a blow off valve.. This isn't fast and furious and you're not driving a toyota. Your engine was designed better than any automotive company in the world can design their engines. The 1.8T is based off of a closed loop turbo system. meaning basically NO BOV. it was done this way for a reason. if you want a "be better turbo sound" (why is it better?) then buy yourself a nice aftermarket diverter valve. it'll cost you about $150 and super easy to install. it will also hold your boost a little longer than the factory one and last pretty much forever. yes. get a short throw shifter. feels real nice.

So to clarify, David doesn't know what an overbooster is, yet can definitively say that the mechanical ability of an engines seals are determined by the program, not the limitations of the engine itself, and furthermore the chip he endorses is the only tune program in the world that maintains a stoichiometric combustion mixture. (although the sensor output values of the vehicle and stock program maintain the fuel mixture regardless of the amount of boost). Brilliance indeed.

So I'm not even sure if you are agreeing or not but your use of big words will definitely let most of the population think you know more than I. I understand the concept of overboosting a motor but in the case of a Volkswagen it just wouldn't make sense. Also, I am answering a simple question in a forum where from my experience, no one has any idea what their car does besides drive. I am giving an answer someone can throw into google, whip out their credit card and purchase. We aren't dealing with advanced mechanics here such as yourself. Furthermore,. I understand fully how my Audi's motor works. Especially the 1.8T. I have only owned 5 but I think I've got a pretty good handle on them. Being a certified VW mechanic gives me some confidence as well. I've built hundreds of these motors and I'm just trying to give answers that make simple sense and don'drive people in the wrong direction on a car that can easily cost them thousands of dollars to fix simple problems. I'm not here to start arguments. Your mustang probably gives you a ton of Volkswagen experience I'm sure, but I have been driving and working on these cars since I was 14 years old. What were you doing 15 years ago?

2,125

yes, and for $500 you can have your ecu programmed by a company that deals with nothing but strictly programming Volkswagen ecus. Oh, and did I mention that it will increase you to 1-1.5bar, much more than just 3psi? You can get 3psi for pennies if you want it by making a simple manual pressure regulator with parts from any home depot but if you want to spend $200 that's fine. I am not arguing but I feel that if I were given the choice to spend just a bit more and get three times the power, with a warranty and quality craftsmanship and a service line that will answer the phone for questions and... I can keep going.

2,125

oh, and 1.5bar holds your engine at about 21psi safely and will spike you around 24psi. We're talking about a 170Hp motor that is stock around 6psi but can handle much much more. In a 1.8 liter motor with a turbo the size of a pea 3psi from a $200 program might give you 7Hp/11lbs just making you want more and I'm sure they have an extremely lenient return policy but I just don't think it sounds worth it. GIAC is going to give you an easy 50hp/65lbs and also give you the options for free upgrades if you feel like going big in the future. Also with smog functionality that will let you switch it on/off for inspections and have knowledgeable people selling the product if you have questions. They don't sell these things at Autozone. I would say 99 out of 100 people are going to recommend you go this route over an overbooster. I have been working with these cars for cars and I have actually never heard once of someone even mentioning this. If anyone really needs help, OP or anyone who actually reads this thing, check out Audiworld.com or Audizine.com, VWVortex.com... not Jeff.com or even me. You make the choice, do some research. None of you are going to buy an overbooster, I promise.

No, Vail Resorts is not a VW shop. I chose to move my life into the mountains and get away so I could ski 65 days a year. Prior to this life decision I worked for a big company that works strictly with VW, Audi, Porsche racing development doing sales and market research for them. It was a passion of mine for most of my life as well as skiing. They offered me a job and training based on what they had seen of my work and knowledge of their industry. One of those training programs was VW cert. Could I clear anything else up for you?

Thank you Jeff for at least giving me a sub-high school response. I'm glad you're on Facebook nine hours a day so I can get quick answers.

Well aside from your story telling, a tt making 14 lbs of boost makes 225hp. Not bad for $200.

2,125

Indeed they must be stories because no one on the internets knows anything about cars but you. And yes Jeff, it will. But a TT making 21psi puts out more. And for only $500 I think it's better.
