Brake caliper piston will not compress

Asked by ndy1966 Aug 23, 2014 at 09:21 PM about the 2001 Audi A6 2.7T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, I have been changing brakes for 30 years. Trying to change brakes on Audi. Last week took the calipers off, with C-clamp compressed piston in caliper. Compressed fine. Unfortunately rotors were wrong size, so put all old stuff back on and drove it for a week.

Now took calipers off again, piston will not compress. Why? Took other side off, same issue. Opened bleeder valve, no change. Is there something on this car that will not allow you to compress the piston? I would think by remote chance that piston could lodged or cocked sideways, but piston never extended beyond old brake distance. Any reason why both sides won’t compress?

Got any advice before I dismantle each caliper into pieces?
