Low oil pressure at idle

Asked by ThatOneMurse Jan 13, 2020 at 12:34 AM about the 2001 Audi S4 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2001 b5s4 Audi.  My low oil pressure light
came on and after hooking up a mechanical gauge I
am reading about 12psi at hot idle.  With rpm it will
climb 10-15 psi per 1000rpm as it should and is
only really low at idle.  Levels are fine, tried adding
slightly thicker oil.  Dropped the oil pan and pickup
was clean but did find some milky shiny oil at the
bottom of the pan.  Car does not knock and I have
been driving it since, prob 300 miles, with no weird
sounds and car performs as it should.  Is there a
chance this could be a worn out pump? (There was
a fair amount of extra gasket on the pain when I
took it off) or am I just making up excuses for bad
rod or main bearings?

its probly a bad or cloged oil pump. tho check your vacum lines and crank cases hoses these cars were Very bad for cloging up with sludge. other wise my first suspect would be your oil pump and only then after the rods or bearings. they are ussaly a last and only final thing to go bad and you would have to be seriously abusing the engine for that
