if the immobilizer is malfunctioning it could be a cluster related issue. The Audi TT has had alot of cluster related issues over the years which cause them to stop running. Have there been any signs that your gauges or read out screen screwing up on occasion?

It is possible that your key could be the issue but from my experience the dash clusters often are the main issues with audi tt's. I would not want to see you waste money on a ignition module just to find out you do in fact need a cluster. if you have the money i would say replace both ignition and the cluster (usually rebuilding the cluster is the best option here since replacing it can cause security issues with the car if its not reprogrammed correctly.)
