I have a 2000 audi a4 1.8, about two weeks ago the car began running poorly at low rpms, it starts fine, can idle for eternity , and above 2800 rpm, it's fine. It's also been using a bit more gas .

sounds like a dirty MAF sensor clean it and it will probly be fine. If that does not do the trick try replacing hte plugs with the best bosch plugs you can buy and it won't be a problem also Only use premium or better gasoline in it.
