burning oil

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My car just started burning oil. I took a trip to pennsylvania and on the way back it sounded like I had a small exhaust leak or the waste gate was open a little. I started the car this morning and it's burning oil. The oil is 3 weeks old and is fully synthetic 5w 40. The filter was changed at the same time. It is really smoking a lot. Any ideas?

It's possible you've got a valve sticking or have bad valve stem seals. You'll need to have this checked out by a mechanic. The louder sound of the engine could be due to an internal malfunction like a main seal leak or similar.
I'm assuming that this is a 2.7T, since you mention the waste gate. I don't know about the 2.7T, but 1.8T is know for having major sludge build-up issues.
This engine was recently maintained. All seals replaced (not valve seals). I think I should have noticed a power loss if it was in the engine though?
