Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 94 Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 V8 just
took a crap on me. When started the
Transmission whines when in parke, drive,
neutral, 2 lo and 3 lo, but when put into
reverse it sounds normal and moves. Other
than that the thing just sits and whines loud
and does not move. Is there a possibility it
could be the pump on the tranny of so how
do I check it to avoid paying someone to do
it.

Sounds like the front pump is bad, or the metal clad rings that seal the torque converter to the pump is sucking air instead of transmission fluid. There are test ports on the side of the transmission that you can place a gauge on to test pump pressures. The only fix is to remove the transmission and replace the front pump which at the same time the clad rings on the stator that seal the torque converter to the pump.
