my battery got so hot that it fused a couple of wires,what caused my battery to get so hot?

First check the positive cable wire all the way to the starter make sure it's not worn though and touching a ground on the frame also check starter could be short in it and then have alternator tested could be over charging.

All the things firebird said would be the best places to start. Commonly a battery heat up is caused by over charge or a short so just follow firebirds advice as those are the likely culprits.
