Dash "Check gauges" indicator light with chime

Asked by 1JeepLVR May 27, 2019 at 04:17 PM about the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What could cause the dash instrument battery gauge to max out and cause
the "check gauges" light to appear?  I was driving and did not realize the
battery gauge had maxed out fully to the right, until the chime brought it to
my attention.  I am not sure what is causing this to happen.  It did happen
twice while I was out running errands.  We did have the Jeep Dealership
correct the problem with the front passenger door not opening and with the
"door ajar" button on the driver's door.  The fix on the driver's door was to
place a shim in the button so it would recognize when the door was open or
fully shut.
