i have the same jeep. its selec trac which is shift on the fly. just dont drive hard as youre trying to shift into 4 high. when i shift into 4 low. i come to a complete stop and put the trans in neutral. i also have 256,000 miles on it.
You should keep your speed below 40-45 when switching to 4 HI and as Anthony mentioned above, you should come to a stop (preferable) or no more than 2-3 mph when switching to 4 low while in neutral.
I thought the 96 GC was the Quadra Trac NP249 transfer case, thus all time AWD/4Lo. And 95 was the last year of the Select Trac 2WD/4Hi/4Lo NP242 transfer case option. Though yes, no faster than 3 mph to switch in 4Lo. 4Hi can be switched at any reasonable speed. i.e. 50 mph.
if hes switching into 4wd.. must mean its not all time awd. or it could be command-trac which only has the option of part time 4. no 4lo. which they did away with. regardless.. we can all agree on the fact tat you shouldnt slam it into 4 if ur pushing the jeep too hard.
Well, he (or she) is not doing a follow up. So I suppose it really doesn't matter L☺L
will a NP249 transfer case fit my 99 quadra drive jeep limited ?
