my 97 grand cherokee will spin over just fine but wont start

I'm back again!!! I went down the list and still no luck. I replaced the crank position sensor, no luck. Then I got a PCM from wrecking yard (I know, shoulda went new) but I'm just trying to get this thing to run so I can sell it!!! Then someone else told me not to put in an aftermarket crank sensor, so I ponied up the $89 for a mopar. No difference. Let me also interject this, when cranking over, I have a good steady exhaust out the tailpipe (no suck back) with a smell of raw gas. Again, I have pulled several spark plugs and they are sparking!! I get no "check engine" light at all, not even when key is first turned on. I can't remember if it ever worked, as I haven't driven this jeep myself for several months. Any ideas guys?? Thanks for any help!!!!

Oh, I forgot. It's a 5.2 V8 with 133k on it.

there is a key trick that can pull codes even if the light is not on. turn the key to on position(not start) and off 5 times. on the fifth, leave in the the on position. check engine light will go off, then start blinking and odometer spot will start showing codes(if there are any). 12 is battery disconnected within 50 starts. most jeeps will show that

It's because grand Cherokees are shitty trucks, an I6 engine is semi reliable but all around grand cherokess SUCK, electronics shit out at 150k miles the doors fall apart even sooner they blow hard at least with wranglers you could "attempt" to fix a problem your self. I’ve been working through a no start issue and replaced a number of components: Crankshaft Position Sensor, Crankshaft Position Monitor (inside distributor), Plugs, Coil, and Distributor Rotor Button. I still have no/very hard starts. A common observation is that a “start” occurs when my fuel guage registers, that gauge is typically in-op during these starting issues. Once it starts it runs fine, and will restart without issue after normal operation. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don’t agree with the gentleman (term used here is in question) that Cherokee’s suck and further stresses they are somehow built to fail prematurely. I’m going out on a limb here and suspect his “double-wide” is also in a shamble since it sounds like he isn’t familiar with the term “maintenance”. Although I’m sure he does just fine under that shade tree and will continue to change his directly on the ground near his drinking water pump. I apologize in advance for getting off track but I HATE STUPID PEOPLE WHO MAKE STUPID COMMENTS. Any advice on starting would be appreciated.

I had most problems posted here. Replaced timing chain and harmonic. Fixed the issue. Good luck. Acad2steel
