Will not start back up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 V8 Limited with
218k miles died on me this evening when I left for
work. I hadn't made but 3/4 of a mile from my
driveway to the stop sign at the end of the street, I
got about 40 feet from the STOP sign and I heard
this a squeaking noise which I assumed was the
brakes but it got a lil louder as I came to a complete
Stop at the STOP sign, where I realize the JEEP is
no longer running. I tried starting it...nothing, I
hooked a volt box to it to jump it....nothing. When I
turned the key forward all of the lights come on in
the dash but it does not start, I turn the key to start
it and it clicks one time. Can someone please shed
some light?

It is difficult to determine what has happened from your description. When you say it clicks one time, that indicates that the engine is not turning over when you hit the key. With the additional information about the squeaking noise (and the number of miles on the Jeep), it sounds like the engine may have seized. At this point, I would recommend getting a breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt and make sure the engine will turn. If it turns, then you may have a starter problem or it could be as simple as a bad battery terminal connection.
