Question type: Maintenance & Repair

New radiator, new thermostat, checked for cracked head or head gasket leaks - no issues there.  Pressure on system reveals no leak.  Very little pressure at radiator cap.  Temps constant.  No leaks under Jeep when parked.  Going through quart of coolant/per week.  Respond to bdcave41@gmail.com.  thx!

Well, Dude, when you include a email address in your question, it reeks of some Nigerian Princes millionaire looking to add to his list of potential suckers. This is the way to correspond. Not by personal email.

The 4.0 engine is about as bullet proof as thy come. What were the compression test reading when you had it tested?

In my opinion, when you done the pressure test, with this small of leak, you would have to wait,a good while before it would show a leak down, and in my personal expereance, have delt with the same problem on a cherokee,it was a very small micro pin hole in the intake gasket, that only leaked while driving it,and engine heat would dry it up without even a trace of it,i replaced intake gasket and no more mystery leak.

T_S_T. I think you hit the nail on the head. That makes perfect sense. Boyd, do you ever get the smell of anti freeze?

I have never smelled anti freeze. Even up under the hood. We will replace the intake gakest. I am convinced it is turning to steam from someplace. I love this old Jeep, even w/ 235K it still runs very well. THANK EVERYONE for your input. I really appreciate it. I'll let y'all know!

BoHoMark, I will get the compression readings. They seemed ok to me, but I am not as knowledgeable as you guys. Thanks!

I am on here well after the initial question but thought my experience might help someone. I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee I bought new. In 2006, it began invisibly leaking antifreeze. I took it my mechanic who said it was a cracked head. Knowing how I've driven it, I couldn't believe the head was cracked. I took it to 2 other mechanics and neither detected any significant leaks while under pressure. One suggested the water pump, which I had replaced. Still leaked. After a couple months dealing with the leak, a drive half-way across country and back and starting to notice Oil pressure problems, I took the vehicle to the first mechanic to replace the head. No more leaks, even till today! The oil pressure problem persists to this day though has improved - once warmed pressure drops to zero when stopped. Thought is that maybe oil pump valve is sticking possibly due to contamination from coolant leak.
