Tail light is out but the break light and turn
signal works

Check the bulbs. They have 2 filaments (one for the tail light and one for the brake/turn signals).

question, not answer, but about tail lights. Passenger side is much dimmer than other. Can this be fixed? Frank

The break in that thin piece of metal or you see the rust around the edges is the problem.
