Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Just purchased a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and just had a problem starting the Laredo. I turned the car off and tried to start it up and it wouldn't start in "PARK". Then I trying to shift it in other gears and it started in neutral. Turned it off again in "NEUTRAL" this time and it wouldn't start but it did start in park. It starts in PARK sometimes and sometimes it won't and I have to start it in Neutral. What's the problem?

Mark, Thanks for your response. When I look at ebay for the Neutral safety switch, there seems to ne 2 different switches. One that is metal with prongs and 1 - with like electrical cords and plug-in ends. Do you know which one is the correct one to buy? Thank you
You will have to go by your year model, engine size and make sure it is for a grand Cherokee.

There were 2 different transmissions available that year. If you look under the passenger side, at the transmission, you will see the one with the wire harness will be mounted here. If it's the 3-prong threaded switch, it's mounted on the driver's side here. See the following link. http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg632/dannuccio/100_2207_zps5110806f.jpg

Also look to see if lever that shifter cable attaches to at trans. is not loose/cracked.
How do you remove the three pronged nss from the driver side of a 2000 grand cherokee Laredo
