Front Drive Shaft missing

Question type: Car Customization

My son bought a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with all time 4 WD. Only problem is he got
stuck in the snow and we realized all four wheels weren't turning. Took it to a garage and
they told us the Front Drive shaft was not reinstalled when it was lifted. The mechanic
called the seller and he said he still has the drive shaft. If I drive the 1.5 Hours to go get
the drive shaft will it fit? Why would he have left it off when he did the modification?

When we bought it he mentioned that he originally put a 4 inch lift on and then went to a 2 inch. Do you think the original part will work now or do I have to buy a whole new part? Do they make them longer to fit those that have been lifted?

You can have any driveshaft either custom made or made longer. A shop that knows what they're doing can cut and splice and balance it. I bent mine on my Ford, badly, and they cut the ends off and welded a new shaft in, was less expensive than a new one. But if it went back to only a 2 inch lift, it MIGHT work, just as long as the splines go in to yoke far enough to handle the torque

Another option, that I would do if I was in your situation is put it back to stock height, get rid of lift, get original shaft= problem solved
