Jeep grand cherokee wj rear ball joint

How do i check for play to know if my
upper rear ball joint is bad i believe it is
because when hitting the brakes,
releasing the brakes, changing gears.
Theres a small like pop and creak

Jack up the car just enough for the wheel to barely lift off the ground, get a small 2x4 piece of wood or a brick and get a something to pry the tire on the vehicle up and down to see if there’s play
