Cranks but don't start

Asked by Tabitha May 18, 2018 at 11:10 PM about the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand
Cherokee.  It was running fine then
just died at a stop sign.  It will turn
over and try to crank but it just
won't start.  A light came on the
dash it's a circle with a key in it
with a slash through it.  Any help or
advice appreciated.

Your Jeep is detecting an issue with the ignition key, like it is being stolen using a bogus key. I'm surprised it even started and ran long enough to get that far. I'm thinking you have a bundle of other car keys on your key chain and these micro chipped keys are sending a confusing signal to the Jeep ECM, so it shuts down "being stolen". So keep these other keys away from the ignition switch and see if it will run on the proper key for that Jeep. Good Luck.
