Overheats at highway speeds.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The temperature gage will creep past 210 and
higher when exceeding 70 mph. This doesn't
happen everyday.  Thermostat was replaced,  flush,
and water pump replaced a year ago for same
issue. Now it's back. I suspect the thermostat.
Could the coolant temp sensor cause this
symptom?

Do you think there might be air in the cooling system? I don't think 210 degrees is overheating. Any signs of overheating besides the temp gage? Any applicable trouble codes? If you have electric radiator fan, is it running? If overheating, the electric fan should be running. Of course you may have a belt driven fan? You could check for combustion gases in the coolant, if present, check head gaskets.

I'm not sure how to test for air in the system. The gauge normally runs just under 210 regardless of what speed I'm at. When the temperature gage gets past 210 that's when I know something's wrong when the gauge creeps past 210 and continues to get hotter unless I either slow down or turn the heat on Full with the windows open. Sensor maybe or clogged radiator?
