Coolant #5 cylinder missfire

Asked by AllyBurg Oct 16, 2018 at 10:37 AM about the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Scan determined misfire #5 cylinder and
minimum coolant discovered. Gauges do not
show any issues but a solid yellow check
engine light.  Vehicle drives fine. Mechanic
mentions a $5000 fix for head/gasket repair.
Looking for second opinions.

If your mechanic is right, and it sounds like he is, you can get that repair for more like $800 at an independent shop. That quote of $5000 is what an entire Jeep like that sells for and a new engine is $2500 not installed. Get another quote. The Overland is a very desirable Jeep and would be worth saving.
