Jeep 4.7 Tapping

Asked by Bamastone Feb 12, 2019 at 12:44 PM about the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just rebuilt my 2004 Jeep 4.7. It runs fine,
but has a loud tapping noise in the top end. I
had the heads reworked and had a few
valves replaced on the side that is tapping.
It’s not your typical 4.7 valve noise. It’s very
loud. Almost like a rod knocking, but it’s
definitely coming from up top. Any
suggestions?

Is there any chance the valve train is out of time from having removed/replaced the heads during the rebuild? Not sure, just an educated guess.
