stalling

Asked by GuruLNBTM Apr 14, 2019 at 09:09 AM about the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 grand cherokee suddenly stalled while
driving. Will not start. Key symbol shoes on dash
and gages don't work. Is this the alarm system?
How do we disengage?  We unhooked the battery
over night. Did not work.

Hi do you have another SKIM key (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) to try in the ignition this will be a gray key in color ...it sounds like either the skim module locked up or lost battery power or ground and possible buss communication to the other modules ...showing the key on the dash is an indication that it does not recognize the key that is in the ignition and after three times to attempt starting it the engine will not crank at all ...also it being an older vehicle it could be a bad key or a bad module ..and this system can not be bypassed ...also does this vehicle have a remote starter in it if it does its possible that module is bad...hope this helps have a great one
