buying my first car!!!

Asked by carfanatic97 Jul 31, 2010 at 10:12 PM about the 1998 Audi A4 1.8T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am buying my first car and really like and AUDI I found on craigslist. The only
problem is it has 179K miles on it. I am very desperate for a car and its a great
deal. If I kept it up and changed the oil and did regular maintenance could it last
25K more miles? I only need it to last for one year.

sure. if the timing belts have been done and the suspension looks ok (no clunking, you can't wiggle the control arms, etc..) then you should be fine. my 98.5 had like 160k on it and i didn't feel like i was going to give it up any time soon.

Honestly, I would not buy a high mileage Audi as your first car. Audis aren't exactly known for their reliability or being inexpensive to repair.

mine has never failed to start. even when its like -20 out. it always started and got me where I needed to go. not saying things didn't break, but they were never bad enough to where the car wouldn't drive. not a cheap fix though...
