I tried the spacers...... didn't work. Would I have to lift the car? Or what can I do??

Oh ok. Do you know what would be the correct offset?? Do you think a 225/45r20 would probably be better or worse?

I'm putting 18inch on my 2000 Lincoln town car what is my largest tire size I can go up too

You need 225-30-20 all others are to wide I have 245-30-20 on my 97 town car and have had no problems

No matter the size I've seen 26s on Lincolns as long as the middle # is not over 30 on the tire so measure the height and width of your wheel well and you will see what size is the biggest you can go...
