1997 Lincoln town car speedometer works sometimes other times is at -O- any suggestions as to cause??

The speedometer works intermittently .    When not showing actual speed it shows 0.

I'll bet that the Speed Control doesn't work either. Either the Speed sensor or the gear driving the speed sensor is probably worn out. I don't think this model uses the ABS wheel speed sensors for the speedo. If it does, you'll need a scan tool to see what is actually being transmitted over the Network to indicate speed.

Add'l Problem: The instant mileage read out at times will read 00 then kick in with correct instant mileage as I drive.

ive changed all of that including the cluster and its still not working
