What is the little red light on the top of the dash for?

There is a little red light on the top of the dash that sometimes blinks even
when the motor is off.
what is the purpose of this light sensor?

That is from the anti theft system. The way it flashes will let you know what mode it is in.

When you lock your vehicle it actives it But you have to remember That and anything else that's operating with the engine off is slowly draining the battery Depending on how fresh the battery is It could last a week or longer or shorter
