Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Carburetor with dirty flip has been ruled out. Best guess was thought to be related to the gas process. Starts ok, but the jerking starts and stays 36 mph until about 44 mph - then stops. Drives well up to 55 mph without problems.  If have to stop, then the same will repeat again.  Car has 189,000+ miles.
Have had problems with electrical system last fall.

Coil packs if they haven't been replaced are probably due and cause lots of odd driveabilty issues with these cars. I agree with trannyman that it could also be a torque converter issue also. Is the check engine light on? What was done to the electrical system last fall?

Mechanic thought the coils were OK. The engine light was not on. The electric work had been done some time ago. I drove the car for several miles doing as was suggested-no difference was noted. Spoke with a local man that does transmission work and he will do a trial run tomorrow or next day. I appreciate your experience and knowledge. The car and I have aged I fear and money is low. Thanks again for any suggestions. Mable
