Typically this could mean that the spring mechanism located inside the button has broken or is simply worn out. One would need to locate the part number, reference this part number within Lincoln's part data system. Once you've located the new part, removed the threaded retaining ring form the old button, which is probably located on the inside/under side of the console's lid. Once the retaining ring has been removed, you should be able to extract the button and replace with an updated or new button. Secure the new button with a new retaining ring and then test fit or adjust before tightening.
