It's probably that the gear shift indicator is broken or needs adjustment. The base that attach to the steering wheel cover, have a plastic screw and body.To reach it, remove the cover down from the steering wheel, the metal plate that have 4 # 10 screws. You may need to unscrew the parking brake handle, as wheel as the plate containing the clock, the other side containing the rear defroster and remove the radio. Also remove 2 screws holding the speedometer cover.Remove the cover and the gear shift indicator will be easy remove.Replace it if broken. The part should cost about $35. I did replace it in my 99 Grand Marquis up for sale $4400. Peace. Lover .Luis. cubn10@yahoo.com
