Windshield wipers only work on high and don't retract.

Asked by aanderson56 Jul 03, 2014 at 10:35 AM about the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Windshield wipers were only working on high.  I replaced the motor and they worked fine for about a week and then the slowest speeds slowly quit working and now it is back to only high and stops anywhere when turned off.  Is something making a new motor go bad?

I suggest that you have the wiper switch checked.

I had a 2001 Marquis and the same thing was wrong with it. Worked on high only and boy what a pain that was. I was able to find a service bulletin for that issue but I have long since sold the car and no longer have the info but try and Google it. That is how I was able to find out about it. I didn't have it repaired. What I did was get a bottle of rain-x and used it on the windshield and it worked really well by the rain just rolling right off it. Of course I would rather had them working right but the service bulletin did address that issue. Good Luck!
