2000 Mercury with 4.6 engine

Asked by GuruZHK8Z Nov 06, 2017 at 10:59 AM about the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My scanner has been used several
times with good results. My car has
OBD II diagnostics. However the
scanner will not work now. Also fuel
pump will not work. Any ideas would
be appreciated.

If scanner will not now work the fuse may be blown. Many times the OBD II port uses the cig. lighter fuse. Also check all of the battery cables, they need to be absolutely clean, free from corrosion and tight. Check the grounds also.

The fuel pump is on a different circuit than the OBD2 & cig lighter. They could be unrelated issues. If your cig lighter works but not the OBD, then check the connections on the back of your OBD box. If cig lighter doesn't work, most likely a blown fuse. The only way the fuel pump issue is linked to the OBD/cig lighter is if there's a faulty ground going to the fuse panel.
