2005 cruise control doesn't work

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have checked the fuses.  When you turn on the cruise it doesn't not light up on instrument panel.

Is the horn inop as well? If so, it's likely to have a clock spring that has gone bad. In the old days, there were 2 or 3 rings on the back of the steering wheel that made electrical contact and operated the Speed Control and horn. Since the advent of Airbags, a clockspring or wound ribbon cable is used. It's a little bit of a PITA: position the wheels straight ahead,Disconnect the battery, pull the Airbag, pull the steering wheel with a puller and there's the clock spring. Don't try to repair it - it's a safety item that's best replaced with a new one.

The recall of which you speak is about Steering Control.

Actually the recall specifies Steering, Brake controls, cruise control, and a computer reset. ( Liquidated an 07 ) when found out they were doing all this on a Steering Control recall

Do you remember the recall number. My cruise ('05 Merc GM) doesn't want to turn on unless I manipulate the on/off switch a few times.

I am having an intermittent cruise control problem (not working every time ) with my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. I took it back to the dealer and they told me the streering system recall didn’t include the cruise control issues.
