When a valve is burnt how do the spark plugs look

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi
Montero and I just changed the
plugs and wires. I found two
plugs with this oily grimmy
substance packed in the end of
them. I have a random miss
code. After changing the plugs
and wires the Misses still there
.so I pulled a wire at a time off
the coilsto check in see if a
coral was not firing. And the
coil that runs number three a
nd number 6didn't change the
motor sound whatsoever.
Could it be I just need a coil
instead of having brunt valves?

Regardless of the valve conditions in the head, no spark needs to be addressed. Your valves/seats my have or may be failing but you should still have spark. A compression test on your cylinders will tell you the coindition of your pistions and valves. For the spark issue it could be a few things. The first thing that I would try is to swap the NFG coil with a good one. If the non working plugs fire and the other pair quits working then I would change the coil. If the same plugs don't work after the swap it will be a electrical issue. Swap the coils and let me know and I will look up your mochine to see what it has for a ICM.

it may not be the coil that is bad,, the PTU (power transfer unit) could also be bad as well,,, but I would start with the coils and test them and see if that's the problem,, you can test them with a voltmeter
