The speed od stop working

this is a 4 x 4 automatic, any idea where on the transmission this sensor is. I have been looking for the last several hours in the Chilton service manual for its location and have found nothing.

seeing how the speedometer and odometer are working, but not the rpm. Is it reasonable to eliminate the instrument cluster as being the problem?
