didn't have nothing to do
with it that it's the mount
on top were the bolt is

The car is 22 years old. its possible that the area was corroded or rusted. If you are talking about the strut itself, it could be a bad part.

... but they didn't, and it broke. It's just part of the price you pay for driving older cars. As was said, its an old car. The mechanic was likely trying to help you by replacing only what was absolutely necessary and hoping for the best. Sometimes that pays off, and sometimes it doesn't.
