You have the VATS security system. There's no reset for the system. If you are using the correct ignition key the most likely problem is the ignition lock cylinder. There's two tiny wires inside the lock cylinder that must make contact with the chip on the ignition key. Those wires break over time and no longer make contact with the chip. So the computer thinks you're trying to start the engine without the ignition key. Check the resistance value of the chip on the ignition key. Remove the lower steering column covers and look for two small wires under there coming out of an orange sleeve. There'll be a black wire and a white wire coming out of the sleeve. Unplug the connector. Put the ignition key in the lock and check the resistance value across the black and white wires. It should be the same as the reading you got when you checked the resistance value of the chip on the ignition key. I bet it's not. But if it is the problem is elsewhere in the system and the BCM (Body Control Module) will have to be scanned for trouble codes for further diagnosis. If you have no codes in the BCM, replace the BCM. Getting back to the ignition lock cylinder. If the lock cylinder is bad, which it probably is, and you replace it the new one will come with a template that will NOT start the engine! This template is used for cutting new VATS ignition keys. You need to compare the resistance value of the chip on the old ignition key with the chart below to determine which VATS key to get. There were 15 possibilities. Once you have the correct key blank, have it cut, using the template that came with the new lock cylinder and you'll be all set. Hope that helps! Jim
