Why wont my car start

Asked by Michael Feb 26, 2021 at 05:57 AM about the 1995 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed out the steering column in my 1995 Grand Am. Now the car wont
start. I have check all fuses and made sure that all plugs under the dash are
secure.  Any ideas?  Turns over great but wont start up.

Try putting the ignition lock cylinder from the original column into the replacement column. I'm not sure if you have a transponder key on a 95 model, but that could be the problem. Especially if you have a security light on the dash that's staying on or flashing. Hope that helps! Jim

Does it Crank or no Crank at all ? If it Does but won't Start , is there any Anti theft Flash Yellow on the Dash ?

If you have the vats security system, pellet in the key, there is info all over the web about bypassing that pellet, if the problem is elsewhere, bypassing that pellet won't help. Basically, you do an ohms test on the pellet, then get a resistor with the same reading as the pellet, splice the resistor between the proper two wire colors and the pellet is bypassed. There may be a video on youtube about that bypassing?
