how new is the battery, nine years = kaput. get a new one.

A 1997 vehicle should be on it's third battery.

when you do put your new battery in assure the ground connection to the frame and chassis is present and connections are free of corrosion, also check the ground 1/0 battery cable to the engine- of course the red terminal has to be clean as well-

Every problem is unique. Since the motor spins, try some starting fluid to see if it a fuel delivery problem or lack of spark.

Yes there is somebody that knows anything about this problem...and 1) what is wrong with tenspeed's answer?
