Bad engine coolant temperature sensor?

Sounds like you have air trapped in the cooling system. It could also be a worn timing chain, or if you have the V6 a blown head gasket. Faulty wiring going to the coolant temperature sensor may cause this as well. Start with the cheap stuff first. Inspect the wires going to the coolant temperature sensor, replace the thermostat, and bleed the air out of the cooling system. A cooling system flush with a chemical cleaner is a good idea too. If none of these things solve your problem you're looking at something more serious that's not worth fixing at this point. Hope that helps! Jim

One other thing, are the electric radiator cooling fans coming on? Check that too. Jim
