Have had several issues with my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. In and out of the shop as "would crank but not turn". Now it will start but die once I put in reverse, but will start in neutral (or not)

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Pontiac Grand Am with about 97,000 miles. Generally has been in
perfect shape although in and out of shop last two months. Cranking but
would not turn. Thought this was resolved after cleaning grounding wires
and repairing ignition wires that were arcing. Now after two weeks of
generally running fine, it might start but then die when I put in reverse. Or
just today, it would not start "Crank but won't turn" until I tried putting it in
Neutral to start it and then bingo, it started. Anyone else seeing these issues
with Pontiac Grand Am GT? I love this car but may be time to start over! I
am the original owner.   Thanks a

Thank you Jim, It is sporadic, so not sure if actually "stuck" but I never know when it will fail. Will probably try to get it into an actual dealership so they can try to run diagnostics. The other shop I have been taking it to does not have the specific Pontiac equipment. I am tired of chasing problems with this car, which up until the past 3 months, has been running perfectly. 17+ years is a pretty good life - I guess. Thanks again. Annette

Thank you again, Jim. I will take this suggestion with me to the GM dealer and see if I can get it resolved and then likely work on finding a new car. I hate to give up as the car looks almost brand new inside and out, but I guess I am due! My husband will be happy to hear that.
