I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM GT. It wiont shift into overdrive. The engine revs high. What is my problem?

First off check your transmission fluid level. If it's not low then it could be a bad connection with the wiring to the trans. I had a Grand Am that would shift in and out of overdrive because a bare wire in the trans wire loom would touch ground short and kick it it out of overdrive. Then get bounced around and move the wire and it would go back into overdrive.
