2000 Pontiac sputters and won't accelerate from a stop when in town. Sometimes dying.

Check enging light, brake light, and low trac light are on and have been aboout a year.
Runs fine on the highway, might sputter a bit on hills. When i get to town, 30 miles all
bets are off when accelerating from a stop. Acts like it's not getting gas. Sometimes/often
dying.

Have you had the codes read? Your local auto parts store will do this for free. If you have what are the code numbers? How long since your last major tune up?(plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, ect)
